The rules below govern registration, conduct, passing standards and malpractice. Open any heading to read the detail.
Registration and fees
The examination schedule for the year is notified in the respective departments. Every student on the rolls is required to appear.
First-year students must pay the first semester examination fee and register. Names of those who do not are removed from the college roll list and they cannot continue their studies.
Examination fees, once paid, are not refunded or adjusted under any circumstance.
Components of evaluation
The End Semester Examination and Continuous Internal Assessment together form the basis for grading each paper and for the award of the degree.
Students must verify their Continuous Internal Assessment marks and sign against their name for each subject before the last working day of the semester.
End semester examination
Held in November for odd semesters and in April for even semesters.
All scripts, both undergraduate and postgraduate, are evaluated by external examiners.
Passing and re-appearance
A candidate who does not secure the prescribed minimum in a subject reappears only for that theory paper or practical, including viva voce, within the period allowed for completing the course and within the permitted number of appearances.
A candidate who fails the project work resubmits the project work.
A candidate who completes the course and passes all subjects across six semesters for undergraduate programmes, or four for postgraduate, qualifies for the degree.
Number of appearances
Undergraduate students who do not clear their papers within the three years of study may reappear for uncleared papers for up to five years, that is ten semesters, after those three years.
Postgraduate students have three years, that is six semesters, after their two years of study. For MCA the study period is three years.
Beyond that limit a candidate must appear for all examinations again, whether already passed or absent, under the regulations then in force.
Detained candidates
A candidate detained for want of attendance rejoins the corresponding semester after the course is completed, to make up the deficiency.
While doing so the candidate is not entitled to the rights and privileges of a regular student.
Hall ticket and identity
The hall ticket and the college identity card must be carried on every examination day.
A student who loses or forgets the hall ticket pays a fine to obtain a duplicate from the Office of the Controller of Examinations. Without it the student is not permitted to write the examination.
Mobile phones
Mobile phones are strictly prohibited inside examination halls. Students are advised not to bring them to the hall at all.
A student found in possession of a mobile phone is booked under malpractice.
Malpractice
A candidate caught in malpractice is restricted from appearing for further examinations and the hall ticket is seized.
All cases of malpractice in the End Semester Examination and in Continuous Internal Assessment are referred by the Controller of Examinations to the Malpractice Detection Cell.
The cell has three members representing the faculties of Science, Commerce and Humanities or Languages, nominated by the Principal. It monitors every case and places it before the Principal, and action is taken in each case.
Supplementary examination
A supplementary examination is conducted after the sixth semester for undergraduate students and after the fourth semester for postgraduate students, for those who have failed in only one subject.
Appeals
Any appeal regarding the autonomous examinations must be made within fifteen days from the date the results are published.
